Burundi - Black Tea · Honey · Red Currant
This washed Red Bourbon comes from Ngozi, a highland region in the north of Burundi. Coffee here grows at 1,700 to 1,800 meters above sea level where cool temperatures, fertile volcanic soil and rolling hills create ideal conditions for slow cherry ripening. That slower ripening helps build clarity, sweetness and a refined acidity in the cup.
Ngozi is known for its many smallholder farmers who typically cultivate Red Bourbon on small plots of land. During harvest, ripe cherries are picked by hand and brought to local washing stations. After depulping the coffee is washed and carefully dried on raised African beds that preserves a clean and transparent cup profile.
Rather than being loud or heavy coffees from Ngozi often stand out through elegance and balance. They show the classic character of Burundi bright but composed, sweet but delicate and structured without becoming overpowering.
This cup shows black tea, honey, hibiscus, red currant and delicate floral accents a clean and elegant expression of washed Red Bourbon from Burundi.
